I think, therefore I write

Double Standards

I was standing on the balcony of the plush apartments and stared at the amazing city that spread far and beyond. The sun was slowly going down painting the horizon skies a splash of orange and red. The tall buildings were a splendid sight displaying the grandeur and how much we have developed. I stood basking in that glorious sight.

Then I looked down.

There was a small slum by the side and a gutter was running down the side lane. The garbage was dumped in the empty land opposite to the slum. The road had no lanes and the traffic was heavy. People were driving without a damn about the traffic signal and rules. Some people were riding their 2 wheelers on the pavement. Kids were running across the street not caring to look out for vehicles.

This is nothing but a vignette written by me to express the irony of our nation. This concept has been nagging my mind for a long time.

And where are the haiku posts you ask? Well, knowing me you should be better off without asking. Anyway, the problem with me is I do not have strong-footed consistency in anything 😈 I look at one thing and get interested and halfway I jump to another thing! I am not saying I won’t write them anymore. (Ajay – You have some consistency man!) I still love the challenge of writing  haiku but I will not confine myself to that. Also, my eyes fell upon this other challenge called A-Z challenge wherein you write a post on any topic but in the alphabetical order. I might also take it up and then again, I might jump ship

Until later 🙂

This doesn’t feel like Spring Beauty !!!!!
Andunless its curiosity driving it., the jumping s unwelcome 🙁

    • Keirthana

It is not Spring Beauty. The concept is very much real and lot of people just ignore it since they are in the upper half. You can see so many places like this depicting the irony of our nation.

And curiosity is the reason for me jumping ships, nothing else. Btw look who’s talking about jumping topics, you don’t stay on one topic for a min while we talk 😆

Looks like it’s gonna rain in Bangalore, you commenting on my blog 😀

Not just that, people in upper half keep looking even upper and upper, conveniently forgetting about the ground reality.

The irony of the nation. So true. There is a 4/6 lane road and people still prefer the footpath for driving their bikes. What is that? I just fail to understand.

At the end of the day, I feel like I can’t write anything on a given topic, but I make it a point to write (even though I suck at them all the time, You too know that). You know what, it is not consistency. I tell myself that I should post at least one post. And Haiku challenge is just one excuse for that. 😛
And though Haiku has a deep meaning in its short words but I write whatever first comes to my mind. You see a topic and something strikes in the mind. I think you should also do that. Or else, all the words for the April month are already given. You can sit one evening with a cup of coffee and pen down whatever comes to your mind.

    P.S. Now, I feel like I don’t know what I just said.

    • Keirthana

      Sad but true!

And yeah, sitting down with a cup of coffee and penning down my thoughts is so tempting. Thanks! And you always don’t know what you say when you have said it 😛 Wondering why? Your mind is not occupied by just you. Go work out the rest by yourself. Hint: Remember that guy in the red shirt with a smirk?

  3. Ajay Kontham™

Who are you speaking about?… the guy in the what? And what do you mean by my mind is not occupied by just me. Who else can occupy it? 😛
You speak so confusing some times. 😛

    • Keirthana

Nobody can save you! Serves me right for trying to tell you 😛

      • Ajay Kontham

        I can save myself. 😛
But you have to be more clear here, Ma’am.

double standards are part of most of indian genes.most of apartments are built after encroaching lakes and ponds by land mafia and politicians.so what are we talking?people don’t follow traffic rules and don’t have basic social manners coz most of indians go to school to earn livelihood, not really to follow and implement what they have studied in textbooks or they were taught in process of education.

    • Keirthana

Yes, what you say is happening, but why should earning livelihood prevent anyone from following the rules properly. Clearly it is for our own good. Unless we are affected directly why do we keep mum and go with our own wayward methods? These are not part of Indian genes because our ancestors seem to be one of the highly disciplined and cultured people. This disregard has come along much later and we are so into the laziness that now we do not bother to correct it instead of coming up with excuses.

well if our culture is so strong ,you won’t find change in next generation behavior.its just the circumstances and opportunism that tests quality and standard of culture.our ancestors never had environment with more survival of fittest circumstances and science aka artificial comforts of humans testing its values aka culture.any behavior or culture sustenance is measured under tough and demanding circumstances.life is easy with flaws and without ethics,so people like easy and comfortable living that comes with flaws.you can see techies driving on footpaths and wrong direction and overspeeding .these guys got degrees just to make money, they don’t like to follow civics that they studied in school.

    • Keirthana

I agree with you that life is easy without ethics and people prefer easier ways to survive. Also, I agree that survival of the fittest concept is getting stronger by the day. I just like to point out that this survival of the fittest concept came into picture only after disregard for ethics and rules started. As you said, the change is not going to come any soon. Because everyone wants their life to be settled and easy. Only if there is a sweep of mindset change in everyone, there is a remote chance of a change for the better. But I know that’s gotta be a miracle.

we have m.k.gandhi as father of nation and he is role model to most of indians.gandhi din’t think of freedom or independence or about india until he was thrown out of first class train coach.like gandhi, most of indians are selfish, they bother only if they are affected directly.

everything in my life is defined with clarity,so i like answering questions.

    • Keirthana

Yeah, true! We think about an issue only if we are directly affected. I am just hoping if our generation could take a little more interest in looking around than just settling in with the easy life, it would do a lot more good. But, as I mentioned in my previous comment, that would be a miracle if it happened. On a personal level, I would like to do things the right way as much as I can. It might not change the entire world, but at least I would have tried.
