If only, like a fool, I had not abstained
I’d never know what would’ve been your say
I didn’t have the courage in the past
To spill out my heart
My smile masked the heart that pained
As I stood the best man on your wedding day
Tired of blaming myself, I breathe my last
If only, my mind thought!
Until later 🙂
If only he had spoken up. Who knows, maybe she felt the same! I’m liking your poetry more and more, Keirthana 🙂
True! Thanks Aathira, I am an amateur trying to improve with every poem.
that is why they say .. its best to speak out .. because later the WHAT if hurts more..
say it out whats the worse that can happen.. it will be a NO at least one would know ..
Bikram
You are right! Even a no would have been better than the what if’s.
Exactly I’ve been telling a friend of mine regarding the same issue. I also warned him that it will be late before he gains the courage.
May he gain courage soon!
Sigh. If only.
A true story in many cases.
Yes. The If Only’s of life hurt more than anything
Even the most outspoken people make this mistake. I know one time I did…not that I am outspoken
Good one!
True, Thanks Red!
yes, if only we gather the courage at the right time..nicely penned, Keirthana!
Thanks Uma! Courage at the right time is the real one otherwise it’s a waste of will power
Interesting. But was thinking how come you be the best man, then thought it’s a poem and it’s not about you. 🙂
Thank you! Yup, it’s fiction 🙂
A sad but true story for many… BTW a superb poem.
Thanks Barath! Hope people make wiser and courageous decisions.
*Sigh* I wish he didn’t.
I wish he’d spoken. I wish…
I do too.
oh ya! there have been times when i wished i should have said what i wanted to but then there are times when i wished i hadn’t :-/
this ‘if’ is… bleh… it makes me crazy!!!
It’s not my place to say but still… I always think that telling out loud is better than the silence that tortures us later. I’d take a loud and harsh ‘no’ any day than the ‘what-ifs’. But, people and opinions change!
